In the spirit of Heritage Month, the Hollywood Foundation saw a fantastic opportunity to contribute to Arts and Culture in our rich and diverse country, through a meaningful CSI initiative. The Purple Team was proud to partner with Ikabawo Performing Arts Academy, for the KZN Schools Arts Festival. The Festival afforded the youth an opportunity to showcase their talent and gave the Foundation an opportunity to promote the Arts and Culture pillar.
Ikabawo Performing Arts Academy was established by multitalented performers, who tell stories through music and dance. The Academy launched the KZN Schools Arts Festival for a variety of reasons, including to promote cultural interests, encourage young people to celebrate their diversity, promote traditional and cultural values and standards and to bring youth together in a safe space to celebrate their culture and heritage. The Festival focusses on restoring and rebuilding the spirit of Ubuntu through performing arts, and the spirit of Ubuntu is something very near and dear to the Purple Team and their CSI projects. Twenty-three schools from 10 Districts around KZN were chosen to participate in the finals that was held on the 21 and 22 of September. On 23 September 2022, the stage was set at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse for the learners to showcase their talent one last time, in an effort to obtain a bursary worth R15 000. The learners were judged according to various categories, namely Creative Poetry, Praise Poetry, Spiritual Gospel with Instrument, Nazareth Gospel, Isicathamiya and Maskandi. The learners were dressed in their beautiful cultural garments and engaged in song and dance throughout the day.
