The Hollywood Foundation has taken another significant step towards improving education and sanitation in the Mpumalanga region, as part of its ongoing efforts to foster a conducive learning environment. On 11 September 2024, the Foundation unveiled a major infrastructure upgrade at Lumukisa Primary School in Acornhoek, handing over four newly built ablution blocks to the school.

This project underscores the Hollywood Foundation’s commitment to enhancing sanitation in schools, promoting health, dignity, and well-being for both students and educators. The initiative was warmly received by the Mpumalanga Department of Education and the School Governing Body, as it addresses one of the region’s critical needs in education infrastructure.

In his remarks, Mr. Sello Marobela, Principal of Lumukisa Primary School, expressed deep gratitude for the Hollywood Foundation’s support, noting that the new facilities will positively impact the school’s 1,178 students, who had been using dilapidated structures for an extended period. He further highlighted the school’s reliance on corporate donations to sustain its infrastructure, as it was founded by medical professionals from Tintswalo Hospital.

“The generosity of the Hollywood Foundation ensures the health and dignity of our students, who will now be spared from the risk of diseases associated with inadequate sanitation,” Mr. Marobela stated, expressing appreciation for the transformative contribution to the well-being of the learners.

Following this impactful project, the Hollywood Foundation continued its efforts in Mpumalanga by visiting Ekukhanyeni Combined School in Siyabuswa. Recognising the school’s challenge in accommodating its growing student population, the Foundation donated much-needed desks. Over the years, Ekukhanyeni Combined School has experienced an increase in student enrolment but lacked sufficient resources to provide adequate seating for its learners.

These initiatives reflect the Hollywood Foundation’s ongoing dedication to improving education across South Africa. The organisation continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring that schools, particularly those in underserved regions, are equipped with the essential infrastructure to create a positive and effective learning environment.
