Grassroots sports development continues to be a major focus for the Hollywood Foundation this year. An array of sporting clubs have already received much-needed assistance, which will hopefully lead to improved performance and overall growth for upcoming athletes. In February, it was an honour for the Purple Team to assist Nashtec FC in the Western Cape, through a soccer sponsorship.
Based at Voortrekker Road, Nashtec FC was formed in 2010 to uplift the community. The year was also a crucial time for soccer development in South Africa, due to the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The club is small, but mighty, and is comprised of two teams, one for seniors and one for the youth. In total, there are 24 players, who are between the ages of 25 and 48. The club is incredibly proud of the hard work and determination of its players, who engage in practice sessions, twice a week, at President High School. The primary reason for the formation of Nashtec FC was to afford youth and men from the nearby community a platform to engage in social activities and interact with one another. The club has tasted success in the past and won the Zororo Pumlani Invitation Tournament, which was a proud moment for both the players and the coaches. A need for new sporting gear prompted the club to seek support from the Hollywood Foundation. Seeing as the club shares the same mission and vision as the Hollywood Foundation, which is to empower the community, it was a natural decision for the Purple Team to reach out and assist these players. On 11 February 2023, the Team from Vasco travelled to Nashtec FC, to contribute new sporting kits, as part of a soccer sponsorship, for the players to wear during upcoming matches.
L Muhamba, the Secretary for Nashtec FC, thanked the Hollywood Foundation for the assistance, and said that the contribution will help to subsidise the cost of new apparel.
