Developing sports at grassroots level continues to be a major goal for the Hollywood Foundation. The Team has already impacted the lives of many upcoming athletes from various development clubs, through equipment and/or kit contributions. The Purple Team acknowledges the remarkable effect that sport has on the development of the youth, and the outlet that it affords them to remain fit, develop vital skills and learn the importance of team work. With this in mind, it was an honour for the Team to assist Bloemfontein Crusaders Rugby Club in December 2022, through a rugby sponsorship that will help to ensure that the club continues to nurture talent.
Bloemfontein Crusaders Rugby Club is based in Heidedal, and it was established in 1994. The club was formed with the mindset to help develop sporting heroes in the region. In total, there are three teams, and junior structures have been put in place to ensure that young talent are given the opportunity to grow and flourish. There are 66 players who form part of the adult team, while around 100 players form part of the boys and girls school team. The players at the club are determined and eager, and engage in active practice sessions, three times a week, at Clive Solomon Stadium. Barry Jacobus, the Chairman of Bloemfontein Crusaders Rugby Club, explained that one of the club’s proudest moment was being named the South African Club Champions. Some players have also had the opportunity to move up to other leagues in the Free State, as well as the Under-21 team. Last year, as part of a rugby sponsorship, the Hollywood Foundation was proud to visit the club, to hand over an array of items that they required, including training bibs, panel caps, head gear, training shirts, water bottles and agility ladders. Barry thanked the Hollywood Foundation for their support and assistance, and said, “By helping us with this equipment, we can focus on getting our stars ready to be those heroes.”
