The KZN Cricket Union kicked off the first phase of Bowl Out Hunger Campaign as food parcels reached 8 cricket hubs within the province.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to strengthen its grip on the most vulnerable people in society, the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union has teamed up with a number of its sponsors and finished the first phase of their Bowl Out Hunger campaign.
The union along with Boxer, Hollywoodbets, Fourways Airconditioning, Sunfoil, SuperSport, One Life Foundation and the eThekwini Metro Cricket District have delivered 778 food parcels to eight of the hubs in this province.
Most importantly the parcels will feed 3112 people for more or less two weeks which will go a long way in helping those suffering during this tough time.
“This pandemic has brought out the best in some people and it’s been incredible to see the communities come together to help those that are in dire need of assistance,” CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom said.

“The sponsors have been brilliant in supporting this initiative and although we know that there is a lot of work still to be done we hope that this can provide some relief to the families in our cricketing community.”

The first phase saw parcels delivered to all the hubs that surround Durban as well as Pietermaritzburg with the Verulam Hub’s donation on hold due to the spread of COVID-19 in the area.
The second phase will see KZN Cricket move to the outlying areas with seven Hubs still waiting donations.
“We plan on starting phase two as soon as possible and get to the rest of those that are in dire need of help.
“We’re covering areas from Port Shepstone to Empangeni as well as inland to Newcastle so we are reaching every area that we possibly can.
“The second phase will be a bigger task with over 3600 people to feed but we know that with the help of all those in the cricketing community in KZN we can get it done!
“We are still appealing for donations to the cause so that we can continue to reach those in need those this difficult lockdown period,” Strydom added.
