On 18 July 2024, the Hollywood Foundation’s Mandela Day events lit up communities across South Africa with a powerful spirit of giving and solidarity. This year, the focus was on uplifting young people from various Child and Youth Care Centres (CYCCs), embodying Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy of compassion and justice.
In KwaZulu-Natal, the Hollywood Foundation made a significant impact at Uthingo Crisis Centre and Ethelberth CYCC. Uthingo received a much-needed facelift through the installation of new windows, a fresh coat of paint inside and outside providing children with a safe environment for emotional expression. The organisation also received new linen, toiletries and toys. Ethelberth enjoyed a day with the Team, through an exciting movie day outing followed by a visit to the organisation.
Mpumalanga saw the Hollywood team’s dedication through the provision of health packs and gardening equipment to Goromani Home-Based Care Centre. This contribution supports self-sufficiency and mental well-being, demonstrating the vital role of CSI activities in fostering community resilience.
In Gauteng, the Tshepang Programme for Orphaned & Vulnerable Children benefitted from a fun-filled day of activities, including painting, gardening, and meal preparation. The contribution of fridges and gas stoves highlights Hollywood Foundation’s CSI commitment to improving living conditions and ensuring sustainability.
Free State’s Welriedal Child and Youth Care Centre received essential items such as heaters, bedding, and cleaning materials, complemented by a movie outing and face painting. This CSI effort ensured that the children’s immediate needs were met with care and joy.
In the Eastern Cape, both the House of Resurrection and ACVV Khayalethu CYCC enjoyed movie outings, educational games, and practical contributions including laptops and bedding. These activities highlight the importance of CSI in providing both emotional and material support.
Limpopo’s Iris House saw the transformation of an office into a therapy room and the provision of a washing machine, reflecting Hollywood Foundation’s commitment to holistic care through CSI.
North West’s Unathi Community Orphans Home received vital items like garden equipment and deep freezers, enhancing their ability to care for the 96 children under their wing, further showcasing the impact of CSI.
In the Northern Cape, Tshepo Ya Bophelo Child and Youth Care Centre benefitted from essential household items and educational support, reinforcing Hollywood Foundation’s dedication to community upliftment through CSI.
Lastly, in the Western Cape, Baphumelele Child and Youth Care Centre enjoyed movie outings and practical support, with face painting and meals provided by the Hollywood team. This engagement highlights the CSI commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children.
Through these initiatives, the Hollywood Foundation’s CSI activities have made a profound difference, reflecting Mandela’s spirit of service and commitment to social justice.
