Bringing smiles to the faces of people in need is what the Hollywood Foundation does best. On Tuesday, the Purple Team, in partnership with the Lighthouse and Injabulo Foundations, embarked on a #BackToSchool campaign and visited two schools in the north of Durban.
The Teams visited Ntuzuma Primary School to land a helping hand to learners with school supplies. The learners and teachers were so excited to see and meet Injabulo Foundation Founder Ayanda Borotho. She motivated the learners and encouraged them to work hard for their dreams and to never give up on anything in life. Borotho, a former learner of the school, told the learners to be respectful and to never forget where they come from.
“Wherever you go in life, never forget your parent’s teachings. In life, the people who become successful are the ones who work hard, so work hard and when you fall get up, dust yourself off and continue where you left off,” said Borotho.
The BackToSchool campaign aims to help struggling parents with school supplies such as, shoes, uniform and other necessities. The school Governing Body representative at Ntuzuma Primary School, Mrs N.C. Khumalo, expressed their heartfelt gratitude and thanked Hollywood, Injabulo and Lighthouse Foundations for the generous contribution for the learners at the school.
Mrs R.E Ntuli, Principal of the school, said that people should take an example from Borotho, who did not forget where she came from. She spoke about the love that Borotho has shown to the school and further thanked everyone involved for lending a helping hand. She also highlighted some of the challenges that the school is facing in terms of infrastructural damage and fencing. The Teams were entertained by the learners with music and dance.
After Ntuzuma Primary School, the Teams travelled to KwaMashu to Dr B.W Vilakazi Primary School, where they were welcomed with a loud cheer. At the school, they handed out school uniforms, including shirts, socks and shoes, to the learners. The Principal, Mrs NR Ngcobo, said they were humbled to be recipients of such generosity. She emphasised on the importance of respect for learners and told them to remain humble. Hollywood Foundation CSI Coordinator Nonhlanhla Mpungose spoke about the Hollywood Foundation and the work that it does, including the #BackToSchool campaign and how it is bringing relief to struggling parents and helping learners to be motivated and boost their self-confidence.
