Giyani, Limpopo: As part of its ongoing commitment to uplifting communities across South Africa, on 29 July, the Hollywood Foundation officially handed over a newly installed prefabricated kitchen and ablution facilities, complete with a fully functional borehole, to the Rivala Drop-In Centre in Giyani. The Foundation also unveiled a refurbished structure that once served as the main daycare facility, now revitalised to better serve local children and caregivers.
This infrastructure handover forms part of the Hollywood Foundation’s Special Projects initiative, under the banner of its nationwide Mandela Month campaign, a programme dedicated to honouring the legacy of former President Nelson Mandela through sustainable and impactful community development. With over R10 million allocated by the Hollywood Foundation for Mandela Month projects, through its MyCommunity pillar, the Foundation continues to drive meaningful transformation at grassroots level.
The Rivala Drop-In Centre, a longstanding beneficiary of the Foundation, previously received key support including a jungle gym, four 10,000-litre water tanks, and wheely waterbarrows to improve water access for the surrounding community. Today’s handover marks the next phase of a sustainable development journey aimed at strengthening Early Childhood Development (ECD) and creating safe, nurturing environments for learning.
“This investment means more than words can express,” said Salva Mathonsi, Centre Coordinator at Rivala Drop-In Centre. “For years, we’ve operated with minimal resources, doing the best we can for the children in our care. Today, thanks to the Hollywood Foundation, we can finally provide our children with a safe, clean space that supports their health, learning, and happiness. This is a turning point for our Centre and the broader community.
“Early Childhood Development is one of the most critical foundations of a thriving society. As an organisation, we are intentional about investing in spaces like Rivala that nurture and protect young minds, while also ensuring that communities have access to basic services and dignified infrastructure,” added Vuyisile Ngobese, Public Relations Officer at the Hollywood Foundation.
The handover reflects the Hollywood Foundation’s unwavering commitment to creating opportunities and improving quality of life for communities, starting with the youngest members of society.
