As sports development from grassroot level continues to be a major focus for the Hollywood Foundation, the Team embarked on a mission to Tafelkop Cricket Development in Limpopo, to hand over a worthy contribution as part of a cricket sponsorship.
For the Foundation Team, sport serves as a platform to nurture developing athletes, while also providing them with a sense of belonging. On 11 November, the Purple Team handed over equipment, kits and transport fees to the cricket club.
Tafelkop Cricket Development was established in 2016, with the aim to promote cricket and keep children busy and off from the streets. They currently have 79 players, boys and girls who are between the ages 12 to 35. The players engage in a practice session every day of the week in different areas including Rite, Dipakaleng and Kenneth Masilela Primary School.
The club’s proudest moment was when they became the first club in the district to participate in the provincial league during the 2021/2022 season. Before the cricket sponsorship from the Hollywood Foundation, Tafelkop Cricket Club was faced with many challenges, including lack of equipment and kit for the players. Sammy Linda, the Secretary at Tafelkop Cricket Development, said that to raise funds for the club, they usually organise events to attract people to donate and senior members contribute money from their own pockets. He was overjoyed to receive the cricket sponsorsh contribution which he said will ensure stability and progress to the junior pipeline and growth of the club overall.
