Food for the children of Generation Chosen thanks to Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project
Generation Chosen is based in the heart of the Lakeside community in Gauteng. The organisation was started in 2018 as a result of the increasing need for aftercare for children living in the area. The aftercare centre has prided itself in taking care of the Lakeside children, from assisting them with their school work to promoting personal development by teaching them life skills. However, like many other NPOs in South Africa who have experienced reduced financial support from independent companies during this time, Generation Chosen has also been struggling to stay afloat. Hollywoodbets reached out in response to their call for help by donating R12 500 that would meet the children’s most immediate need – food on their table.
Thanks to this donation food parcels containing essential items were provided to 25 Generation Chosen beneficiaries as well as their families to help them through this difficult time. The donation was achieved through Hollywoodbets’ My Community Programme which has joined forces with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation to create the “Brighter Future” project. This initiative will see R1 million go to 60 NPOs and NGOs across each of South Africa’s provinces to assist them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We at Generation Chosen as well as the families of the beneficiaries would like to thank Hollywoodbets for giving us these much-needed items in this time of need. We rely on the generosity of donors such as yourself and we appreciate your support for our organisation. Thank you for all your support once again!” said Co-Founder and Treasurer of Generation Chosen, Sheila Kgaphola.
Hollywoodbets Area Manager for Gauteng, Lorraine Tshabalala, was thrilled to be involved in this incredible relief work. “It is truly an honour to work for a company like Hollywoodbets that has stepped up to the challenge to help other South Africans when they need it most. It has especially been a privilege to assist such a worthy cause like Generation Chosen. They are making a difference in the lives of the children of the Lakeside community. We hope that with our support, they will be able to stand firm during these hard times and continue moulding better futures for these young South Africans though their teachings and guidance.”
