Hlayisekani Drop-In Centre provide essentials to 20 families thanks to Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project

This well-known drop-in centre cares for vulnerable children as well as orphans in the Msiphani village near Polokwane in Limpopo. Their community has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with many people going hungry and turning to Hlayisekani for assistance. Centre staff were thrilled to receive R12 500 from Hollywoodbets, the well-known national bookmaker. Thanks to this donation 20 families will now be able to put food on their tables.
This news comes fast after the announcement made by the company that their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme would be teaming up with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation to show support to 60 NPOs and NGOs across all nine South African provinces. The “Brighter Future” project will see a grand total of R1 million going to organisations involved in providing relief to the disadvantaged during this pandemic. This Hollywoodbets’ second donation to the centre.
Since 2009 Hlayisekani has been assisting children with their educational needs as well as providing extra-curricular help with their studies. Some of their other goals include reducing the psycho-social impact that HIV/AIDS has had on children in the area as well as promoting children’s rights. They also provide food to those less fortunate.
The Centre’s Manager Salphina Hlamalani was thankful for Hollywoodbets’ show of support. “Thanks to this company’s help we were able to provide food to very needy people living in the Msiphani Village. It is good to know that these families now have these essential items to be able to make it through this difficult time,” she said.

“We chose to assist this specific organisation because we know they are situated in the deep rural area near Tzaneen where people have been hit hard by the current situation. It can be hard to receive healthcare in this area, and we are often sad to see many children going without having their basic needs met, so we felt it was right for us to step in and help them as they help others,” said George Maekanya, Hollywoodbets Regional Manager for Limpopo.
