Ethembeni crisis centre was the organisation of choice for Hollywoodbets Pinetown for the Hollywoodbets My Community Programme 2020/21
Hollywoodbets Pinetown
Ethembeni Crisis Care Centre
The organisation is a shelter for abused women and children, it supports victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, gender-based violence as well as those infected with HIV/AIDS living in the community of KwaNdengezi. They also feed disadvantaged people and families through a daily food parcel scheme that they provide.
This organisation opened their doors in 2005 and was established to support community members who have suffered trauma and stress because of different crises. Ethembeni has been driven by the goal of making the world a better place. They exist because orphaned and vulnerable children within that area required a centre that could offer them practical help.
They run various structured programmes including food donations as well as a health clinic. Ethembeni’s work enhances the lives of senior citizens and the youth. They do this through teaching the community about agricultural and natural resources and conducting talks and drives for HIV/AIDS prevention. They also focus on positive parenting and run human rights awareness drives within the community and schools.
Hollywoodbets Pinetown Team Members visited the centre to hand over a Jojo water tank, heater, rotary dryer, two sewing machines, two garden rakes, two fleece blankets and 10 heavy duty hoes.
Manager of the centre, Abigail Mbongwa, thanked the Team for their assistance.
“The KwaNdengezi area is experiencing a water crisis, so the Jojo tanks will be beneficial for the organisation. The other material received will be helpful for environmental and skills development projects”, she said.
