Bambelela Business Awards Return to Limpopo, Unlocking R1 Million for SMME Growth

Limpopo Bba 1 Bambelela Business Awards Return to Limpopo, Unlocking R1 Million for SMME Growth Enterprise and Supplier Development | Hollywood Foundation

Polokwane: In a province rich in agricultural activity, mineral resources and cultural heritage, Limpopo’s economic growth is increasingly being shaped by the resilience and innovation of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs). As the backbone of local economies, these businesses play a critical role in job creation, skills development and community upliftment, particularly in areas where access to funding, markets and business support remains limited. Against this backdrop, targeted enterprise development initiatives have become essential in unlocking inclusive economic participation and strengthening the province’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

It is within this context that the Hollywood Foundation once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to SMME development by hosting the prestigious Bambelela Business Awards 2026 in Limpopo. Now in their third year in the province, the awards built on the momentum of the highly successful 2025 edition, reinforcing the Foundation’s dedication to fostering economic empowerment and sustainable community development through the growth of local enterprises.

Held over three impactful days in Polokwane, the Limpopo Bambelela Business Awards commenced with an SMME Workshop on 20 January, where selected entrepreneurs participated in tailored masterclasses aimed at strengthening business acumen, operational efficiency and long-term sustainability. This was followed by an SMME Exhibition and Seminar on 21 January, providing a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses, engage with industry experts and explore opportunities for collaboration. The programme culminated in a prestigious Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony on 22 January, celebrating innovation, resilience and entrepreneurial excellence across the province.

With an increased investment of R1 million, the Hollywood Foundation not only provided critical financial support to selected businesses but also created a platform for networking, mentorship and collaboration, underscoring its long-term commitment to the growth and sustainability of SMMEs in the region.

Commenting on the success of the event, Mr. Simo Vilakazi, Enterprise and Supplier Development Assistant Manager for the Hollywood Foundation, said: “The Bambelela Business Awards continue to highlight the immense potential that exists within Limpopo’s entrepreneurial landscape. By combining funding with capacity-building and access to networks, we are enabling SMMEs to scale their operations, create employment and contribute meaningfully to local economic development.”

The impact of the programme is already evident through the success of previous beneficiaries. MMR Sports, a past recipient of support through the Bambelela Business Awards, has built on its local success to increase its regional visibility and business opportunities, including participation at the Intra-African Trade Fair, a key continental marketplace that connects suppliers and buyers across Africa. Such progress underscores the potential of Limpopo-based enterprises to extend their reach beyond South Africa when provided with targeted support.

Speaking at the even on behalf the MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Tshitereke Matibe, Head of Department, Matodzi Rathumbu, said: “We want to appreciate the Hollywood Foundation in this third installation, and we do believe that such a movement with the support of government and all partners that it can go further and more people benefitting.”

The 2026 Limpopo Bambelela Business Awards celebrated the achievements of local entrepreneurs while also laying the groundwork for future collaboration and growth. Through the programme, the Hollywood Foundation continues to play a meaningful role in advancing socio-economic transformation in Limpopo and beyond.
