The Hollywood Foundation has once again stepped forward to support small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), amidst a blend of economic challenges faced by South Africa’s evolving business landscape. As SMMEs remain resilient in this sector and continue to play a crucial role in fostering economic development, the Hollywood Foundation is proud to host the prestigious Gauteng Bambelela Business Awards 2024, on 11-12 November, giving SMMEs a stage to shine.
With the impact of these awards reaching new heights, the Hollywood Foundation has increased its investment to R1 million, reflecting its commitment to the growth and sustainability of SMMEs across the province. The event not only celebrates business achievements but also underscores the Hollywood Foundation’s dedication to empowering local entrepreneurs who drive employment, innovation, and economic resilience in their communities.
The two-day awards event gathered influential industry leaders, representatives from various sectors, and aspiring business owners, providing a valuable platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and mentorship. This year’s winners, carefully selected from a pool of promising businesses across diverse sectors, represent the entrepreneurial spirit needed to inspire continued development within South Africa’s economy.
During her address, Ms Vuyisile Ngobese, Spokesperson of the Hollywood Foundation emphasized the critical role of SMMEs, saying, “Our nation’s small businesses are the engines of economic stability and the agents of change, particularly in times when resilience is more important than ever. Hollywood Foundation is proud to invest in these entrepreneurs, as their success becomes the success of the community. The Hollywood Foundation, proudly wearing the Purple Brand, has so far committed R4.7 million to support 120 SMMEs across these regions. This investment extends far beyond financial aid; it’s an investment in dreams, livelihoods, and communities.”
MEC for Gauteng Department of Human Settlement, Ms Tasneem Motora who represented Provincial Government highlighted the importance of supporting SMMEs stating, “Most families depend on the income generated by small businesses, so encouraging entrepreneurship among youth, people with disability and women is not just an economic imperative, but it’s a pathway to social change.”
The awards ceremony concluded with a moment of recognition for the 2024 Gauteng Bambelela Business Award recipients, who have shown remarkable growth and innovation, establishing themselves as leaders within their respective industries. This year’s winners were honoured for their exceptional contributions to both their sectors and their communities.
As the Hollywood Foundation reflects on yet another impactful event, it renews its commitment to uplifting and supporting SMMEs as part of its broader mission to drive sustainable socio-economic development across South Africa.
