Children form part of the society and the Hollywood Foundation ensures that the needs of the little ones are always put first. In March, the Purple Team embarked on a mission to bring hope to children at an organisation called Boost Africa Foundation, as part of various CSI initiatives throughout the country.
The Boost Africa Foundation is an organisation that was established in 2015 in Dunoon, a township on the outskirts of Cape Town, in the Western Cape. The organisation was formed with the aim to assist individuals to be able to reach their full potential, for children to continue to progress academically, for children to overcome their challenges and show personal growth and for families to progress out of poverty.
They believe strongly that in order to create a long-term impact that sees people reach their full potential, partnerships need to be formed, rather than supplying or imposing solutions. This means that the team works alongside community members and while there is access to resources, initiatives are designed to encourage members of the community to take control of their own lives by inspiring learning that empowers them to overcome their own personal challenges.
The Boost Africa Foundation believes that no individual exists in isolation, and taking this into account, the organisation seeks to work with individuals, as well as with the systems around them. This has resulted in the projects being interconnected and, where possible, linked to the family unit. The organisation believes that challenges faced by people living in poverty are incredibly complex and almost impossible to solve alone. Boost Africa Foundation seeks to build bridges, partnering with like-minded organisations, government, churches, companies and experts to bring innovative solutions that lead to sustainable impact.
Currently, they have a variety of projects that they have implemented including the AftaCool project, a Maths Club for Grade 4 to 7 learners, a computationa thinking programme for Grade 4 to 7 learners and a Dunoon Explorers, which is a weekly fun club for children from grade 4 to grade 7 among others.
To help assist the organisation on their mission, the Purple Team from the Dunoon branch visited Boost Africa Foundation this month to lend a helping help through a CSI initiative by contributing story books for the children at the organisation. Elbsie Postma Botha, the Director at Boost Africa Foundation, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Hollywood Foundation, and said, “This contribution will enable us to buy the books and resources for crafts we needed to run our AftaCool programme for this year according to our specific curriculum.”
