The Hollywood Foundation’s dedication to Sports Development shines through its CSI initiatives, exemplified by their recent sponsorship of the Port Natal Tournament. Held at Port Natal School in Umbilo, Durban, on Saturday, 1 June 2024, this ‘pilot’ mini tournament was a significant event, focussing on nurturing young talent in rugby and netball. The CSI programme supported this vibrant event by providing essential netball and rugby kits, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to grassroots sports.
The Port Natal Tournament showcased the Foundation’s CSI efforts in action, with five schools participating in the event. Approximately 100 boys and 100 girls, aged under 7 and under 8, took part in barefoot rugby and netball matches, respectively. The round-robin format ensured that each school had the opportunity to compete against one another, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition. The tournament also featured 30 coaches and referees who volunteered their time to assist and guide the young athletes, highlighting the community-focussed aspect of the event.
Carike Van Rensburg, Teacher and Coach at Port Natal Primary School, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support from the Hollywood Foundation’s CSI programme. “We are immensely thankful for the contribution of netball and rugby kits from the Hollywood Foundation,” Van Rensburg said.
“This sponsorship not only provided essential equipment but also helped expose our young athletes to these sports at an early age. The tournament was a fantastic success, and we look forward to growing this event in the coming years.”
The Hollywood Foundation’s CSI initiatives are instrumental in promoting Sports Development, particularly in underserved communities.
