Warm Meals for Healing Minds Community Services during Covid-19 pandemic courtesy of Hollywoodbets’ donation

Brighter Future Project

Cooked Meals for Healing Minds Community Services thanks to Hollywoodbets and Lighthouse Foundation’s Brighter Future Project

Hollywoodbets delivered food parcels to the tune of R25 000 to Healing Minds Community Services based in Walmer, Port Elizabeth. Since 2012 when Healing Minds was established, this diverse non-profit has done a lot for those living in this township community. They run a crèche for the young children, assist those who are sick and also feed the destitute. Owing to the dire economic climate that the COVID-19 pandemic has created, Healing Minds has been struggling to feed the increasing number of starving people within community who have had no choice other than to look to them for help during these difficult times. Hollywoodbets reached out as a response to Healing Minds’ call for urgent aid as they attempt to cater to the needs of their enlarged number of beneficiaries at present.
This is Hollywoodbets’ fifth time supporting Healing Minds. Thanks to their support warm meals and food parcels were distributed to 102 needy people. The organisation made use of the Walmer Town Hall to distribute the food as this venue allowed them to have enough space to accommodate the long lines of people. This act of goodwill is a result of the company’s recent announcement that their Hollywoodbets My Community Programme would be working with Nomzamo Mbatha’s Lighthouse Foundation and forming the “Brighter Future” project where they would be giving R1 million in aid to 60 NPOs and NGOs across South Africa as part of their COVID-19 relief plan.
Hollywoodbets representatives were present on the day and conducted the proceedings. “We feel honoured to support an organisation like Healing Minds, which is doing so much to tend to the needs of disadvantaged people in the Walmer township. We hope that our efforts will provide some relief to the hardworking Healing Minds team and that it will help them to remain strong enough to keep feeding the growing numbers of starving people during these tough times,” said Mfundo Macingwane, Hollywoodbets Regional Manager for the Eastern Cape.
Manager of Healing Minds, Elizabeth Mangaliso, was deeply moved by Hollywoodbets’ contribution and voiced her thanks on the matter.

“Thank you, Hollywoodbets, for being a blessing to our community when we needed it most. Your company’s good deeds have allowed us to continue looking after these vulnerable people and we are so grateful for this!”
